Fantasy Baseball Update 7/1/12
July 1st 2012 12:21
Let's take a look at how we can start the month of July off on the right foot in some fantasy contests. Here is what I am looking at for today:
On the mound today I am looking at spending the money on Clayton Kershaw from the LA Dodgers. Kershaw is just 5-4 this season with a 2.74 ERA within average of 6.4 strikeouts per game. Kershaw has outstanding numbers s of late against the New York Mets his opponent tonight. This Mets lineup is hitting just .187 against Kershaw. Over the last five games against the Mets Kershaw has a 1.39 ERA with an average of almost 6 strikeouts per game while the Dodgers are 5-0 in those 5 contests. I like Kershaw today to put an end to this Dodgers losing streak.
Kershaw is going to be priced very high at most sites. We are going to need to find some players who could fill in at reasonable prices.
Behind the plate I like Michael McKenry from the Pirates. McKenry has seen an increase in playing time since the nagging injury to Rod Barajas, in which he has taken full advantage of. McKenry is hitting .476 his last 6 games with a slugging percentage of .857. With how hot he has been and his reasonable price tag I have to put him in my lineup today.
At first base is another guy who has a reasonable price tag who has been hitting the ball extremely well. Tyler Moore from Washington looks like he could be a good play today. Moore is hitting .400 with a .750 slugging percentage his last 6 games.
At second base fandule.com still has Chase Utley priced way below what he should be? I like Utley today against Ricky Nolasco from Miami. Utley is hitting .385 with a .615 slugging percentage through four games this season. Throw the fact that Utley is a career.313 hitter against Nolasco and I like the value we are getting today.
Now I am looking for cheap option at third base today and I am going to go with Matt Carpenter from the Cardinal. Carpenter has not been all that impressive as of late, hitting just .273 his last 5 games. Carpenter though does get to face Erik Bedard from Pittsburgh who has a 6.23 road ERA this season.
At shortstop I am going to look at Andrelton Simmons from the Braves. Simmons has put up decent numbers this season and has looked great as of late. Simmons is hitting .375 with a .583 slugging percentage his last games.
The outfield is where I am going to spend most of my money.
Hunter Pence at looked real good as of late. Pence is hitting .419 with a .871 slugging percentage the last 8 games. Pence does have 4 career homeruns against Nolasco in his career.
Matt Holiday is another guy who is hitting the ball well right now and gets to face the road struggling Erik Bedard. Holliday is hitting .429 with a .571 slugging percentage his last 6 games. Throw the fact Holliday is hitting .429 for his career against Bedard, make me like this guy even more today.
My last outfielder I have to go cheap and that will be Mike Morse from Washington. Morse is hitting .469 with a .688 slugging percentage his last 7 games. The cheap price on Morse and how hot he has been makes me like this play.
Well I hope some of this is able to help everyone when setting their fantasy lineup for today.
As always good luck and let’s make it a profitable day to start July off.
