Fantasy Baseball Update 7/2/12
July 2nd 2012 16:25
Not too bad of a day yesterday in fantasy sports for me. I was able to cash in on two of the three contests I played in. Let's see if I am able to make it another strong day for us fantasy addicts out there.
On the mound tonight:
James McDonald will be on the mound for Pittsburgh and for the people who follow my blog know I like this guy McDonald. McDonald has outstanding numbers this season at home where he is 3-1 with a 1.63 ERA. McDonald has pitched in 8 games at home this season where he is averaging almost 6 strikeouts per game and less than 5 hits per game at home. McDonald has dominated this Houston team when pitching at home in his career, in four home starts against Houston with a 1.78 ERA against them with an average of 6.5 strikeouts per game over that span.
McDonald is going to be priced a bit higher in most contests so I will have to try and find some value in other positions tonight.
At first base tonight Eric Hosmer from Kansas City has caught my attention. Hosmer is hitting .423 his last 6 games with a .615 slugging percentage, Hosmer will face Ricky Romero from Toronto whom he is hitting .400 (4-10) in his career against.
Second base is a guy not many people have heard of. Alexi Amarista form San Diego seems to be the right fit tonight. Amarista is hitting .412 with a 1.000 slugging percentage his last 7 games. Amarista will face Trevor Cahill from Arizona tonight whom he is hitting .667 (2-3) in his career against.
Third Base I am going to take a gamble on. Mike Moustakas from Kansas City has struggled as of late, Moustakas is hitting just .087 his last 6 games. The reason why I will take a shot on him tonight is that he is a career .800 hitter against Ricky Romero. This is the matchup Moustakas needs to put an end to his struggles at the plate.
Shortstop is another guy I have been starting to take on a regular basis. Andrelton Simmons from Atlanta has looked great as of late. Simmons sis hitting .348 his last 6 games with 5 runs scored, 1 homerun and 4 RBI's. I like the matchup Simmons has tonight against Jeff Samardzija from the Cubs who has allowed 5 or more runs in 3 of his last 4 starts.
Behind the plate Michael McKenry from Pittsburgh has been on fire. McKenry is hitting .455 with a .955 slugging percentage his last 6 games. This guy is taking full advantage of his playing time.
In the outfield tonight is where I spent most of my money.
Matt Holliday from St. Louis is hitting .409 with a .545 slugging percentage his last 6 games. Holliday gets the opportunity to feast on the Lefty Josh Outman from Colorado who has a 12.15 road ERA this season.
Adam Jones from Baltimore seems to be starting to heat up again. Jones is hitting .333 his last 6 games and has two or more hits in three straight contests now.
My last outfielder does not have too much power but I like his matchup tonight. Ichiro from Seattle will be my last outfielder. Ichiro is hitting just .241 his last 7 games but he will face Jason Hammel from Baltimore who m he is a .714 (5-7) career hitter against.
Well I hope this is able to help some of you fantasy addicts out there when setting your lineup.
As always good luck and let’s make this a profitable day.
