Fantasy Baseball Update 7/3/12
July 3rd 2012 17:11
Well it has been a nice start to the month of July after cashing again last night in two of my three contests. Let's see if I can keep it going.
Here is what I am looking at for Tonight:
On the mound tonight I am looking at Ivan Nova from the Yankees. New York is 6-1 the last 7 starts for Nova. Over the last five starts for Nova he is 3-0 with a 1.26 ERA. Nova has faced TB twice this season and he is 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA with an average of 6.5 strikeouts per game. If I look a bit farther back I see the Yankees are 6-0 in Novas six career starts against TB in which Nova has a 2.82 ERA against the Rays.
Ivan Nova is going to be one of the top tier pitchers tonight priced wise so I am going to have to find some guys to fill other positions that are cheap and have a chance to get us some fantasy points.
At first base tonight I am going to take a gamble with Chris Carter from the Oakland A's. Carter has played two games thus far for Oakland in which he is hitting .429 with a 1.429 slugging percentage. He faces a John Lester from Boston who has struggled at times this season. I’ll take a chance with this rookie.
At second base I am going to ride this Alexi Armarista kid from San Diego. This kid is hot right now, hitting .476 with a 1.143 slugging percentage his last 7 games. Over the last 7 games he has 10 hits, 6 runs scored, 4 homeruns, 11 RBI's with just 1 strikeout. I watched him hit a homerun last night against Arizona you should see this guy. He has got some power for only being 5 feet 7 inches.
At third base tonight I am going to spend some money on Miguel Cabrera. Cabrera is hitting .480 with a .680 slugging percentage his last 7 games. Cabrera gets to face Nick Blackburn who he is hitting .452 (14-31) in his career against. Blackburn is having a horrible year and it won’t get any easier tonight in Detroit.
Shortstop is another position I am going to spend a nice amount. Ian Desmond from Washington will be inserted into my lineup today. Desmond is hitting .440 with a .960 slugging percentage his last 6 games and now he gets to face Tim Lincecum today. Desmond is a career .778 (7-9) hitter against Lincecum.
Now I have a few guys who I am inserting into my outfield that many people might now have heard too much about. Price is nice on these guys and I like the matchups and how hot some of these guys have been hitting.
Justin Ruggiano from Miami looks to be a nice play tonight. Ruggiano is hitting the ball well right now. Over the last 6 games he is hitting .529 with a .824 slugging percentage. He has got 7 RBI's, 9 hits and 2 stolen bases over that span.
Martin Prado from Atlanta has looked solid as of late. Prado is hitting .375 his last 7 games with a .500 slugging percentage. Prado will face Chris Volstead from the Cubbies tonight whom he is hitting .313 (5-16) in his career against.
Finishing out the outfield will be Jon Jay from the Cardinals tonight. Jay is hitting .263 his last 6 games but he has a .667 (2-3) career average against Jeff Francis from Colorado.
Well I hope this is able to help you fantasy nuts out there.
As always good luck and let's make it a profitable night. Hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th of July. I’ll be back on Thursday taking tomorrow off to rest and throw down a few cold ones while lying in the pool.
