WHAT! is this thing called sport?
What IS! this thing called sport?
What is THIS! thing called sport?
What is this THING! called sport?
What is this thing CALLED! sport?
What is this thing called SPORT!?
What exactly is this thing called sport, I find myself questioning it increasingly so as time goes by.
What is it in the bounce of a ball or the speed of car that fascinates us so? Why is it that our senses are so enthralled by such things as a cracking cover drive through the gap or a miraculous banana goal on the run that seems to fall from the sky with the grace and timing of a leather angel clad with stiches? And how is it that for one day, be it the first Tuesday in November or the last Saturday in September we allow our imagination to simply become possessed with the viewing of 'Races that stop the Nation' or 'Games of football that shape history.’ Truly during such periods of captivation sport yields a hypnotic power amongst the masses, but why?
Be it because we are astounded by the feats of sheer brilliance that those who compete can achieve. Because we simply have a desire to brag upon the time that our ‘team’ or ‘man’ succeeds. Or be it just because of the fact that at these times, sport distracts us from the complex issues of life. Unites us with others cut from a similar cloth. And elates us to such feverish levels of excitement that we can’t help but brake into hysterics.
What ever it is all I know is that sport is a crazy thing but one no true Aussie could live without.
Cheers
